Beginners' challenge
Finding style that best suits you and knowing exactly what to wear at any time is quite challenging even for someone who likes fashion, who pays much attention to trends, fashion and his/hers every outfit choice.
I could say I am lucky as I was born with curiosity for fashion, art, colors and aesthetics in general. Early on, from childhood, it was natural for me to pay attention to the way I dress and how I wanted to look on each occasion.
But as an adult with million of everyday obligations, often there is not enough time to carefully plan or try out different clothing that looks best on you. With the lack of time and „more important“ things on Your mind, looking your best falls behind, especially if You haven’t had much experience in matching clothes or have no interest in fashion at all. Regardless of the type of person you are, one that is admiring fashion like me or another who is choosing the same comfortable clothing on each occasion, we all have one thing in common;
WE ALL LIKE TO BE COMPLIMENTED ON HOW WE LOOK!
That is reason enough to continue reading this article and get inspired to find clothing style that best fits You and complements Your appearance every time without having to put much effort.
Let's get started…
There is nothing more exciting than observing how people dress, how their confidence changes according to the clothing they wear.
Throughout my teens I got so inspired by different costumes in movies and plays and fashion magazine covers that I would search every wardrobe in the house trying to find clothing that could give me that same look which drew my attention. With practice of trying to recreate a specific look, I got to the point where it became easy to play with colors, textures, lengths, and layers, adding accessories and mixing styles.
Everything matters, not just clothing, but also hairstyle, makeup and shoes, almost like music notes, when put together in right order they create a beautiful „visual symphony“.
Comfortable clothing are not only sweatpants…
In order to feel confident in clothes you are wearing, you must feel comfortable. This does not mean that only clothing you feel comfortable in are tracksuits and leggings and other sportswear and leisurewear. There are a number of other more formal and classical clothing items that feel comfortable as well, but have been forgotten in recent times. We all have fallen under the sweatshirt and sneakers trend that has been largely accepted as the only comfortable outfit today.
The key is to find what makes you feel confident and comfortable while still making a fashion statement that is uniquely yours. Try out garment combinations that you perhaps have forgotten about in your wardrobe, old skirts or dresses combined with a new belt, blazer or a scarf. Maybe you have forgotten how good your legs look in dark sleek stalkings and knee long slim skirt? Or how good do you look in a classic suite?
Try any of these combinations and wait and see how other people will start to perceive You differently and get compliments on Your appearance. If you are a hardcore sport and casual type, there are also a few tricks for you as well. Sports look can always be enhanced with the right hairstyle, makeup, accessories (scarves, jewellery, watch, bag, hat….).
If your clothing is more simple, the right accessories and hairstyle could compensate for looking smart. So even the most leasure look if accompanied by the right accessories could result in giving a overall „goodlooking“ impression.
Your style is your identity vs. fashion trends
Your personal style is an expression of your true self. Clothing you choose and like is a reflection of your personality, social surroundings and experience that influenced your taste, shaped your wardrobe and gave you your own unique sense of style. On the other hand fashion and trends are all about liking what the fashion industry wants you to like. But it is not as bad as it sounds, fashion is not some designer conspiracy that is making you buy new clothing all the time. Fashion is a form of art, culture and expression of society happenings and a reaction to the world we live in.
Fashion is very much needed and we all get inspired by fashion and trends. Weather it is referring on home design, cars, travels, food we eat, drinks and almost every choice we make is inspired or guided by a certain fashion trend.
Clothing is no different. Finding your own style means evolving with it over time. Observing fashion trends, experiencing your personal change and body change, our tastes and preferences are constantly changing.
Clean out your wardrobe – organize by colors
Clean out your closet and organize it, so dressing becomes easier. Throw away all clothing you no longer fit in. If you can combine old garments with new accessories and make them work for you, that is a keeping item. Clothes you decide to keep should complement your overall look and be versatile enough for various outfits. After inspection, organize your wardrobe so you know exactly where you will find some statement pieces and bold accessories like necklaces, colourful scarves or brooches. These could become signature elements of your style.
Also have neatly folded all your everyday items together with accessories, like a classic watch or a handbag.
Other ways of organizing could be the use of colors as well. It is easier to look for a combination when you have all simalair colors lined up in order. Either way, wardrobe organization is a must.
At the end….embrace your lifestyle, personality and be happy
Fashion should be playful, and you should play with it again and agin. In your play you should concider the practical as well as the stylish side of fashion. If you spend most of your day running around, you will prioritise comfort by adding chic elements to elevate your look.
No matter how stylish an outfit is, if it doesn’t fit well or isn’t comfortable, it won’t feel right. Ensure your clothes fit you properly and make you feel good. Choose fabrics and cuts that feel good on your body.
Your confidence will shine through when you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing. Use colors! Choose colors that make you look better, sometimes even younger. Beige, white, pink, red, orange… some colors could give more a fresh and rested look.
Remember, fashion is your way of communication to the world and people around you, it is a form of self-expression. There’s no right and wrong way, no one-size-fits-all, so have fun experimenting, don’t be afraid to try out clothing out side of your comfort zone. Last but most important thing; ALWAYS WEAR A SMILE AND HAPPY THOUGHTS!
